I'm trying to mock-up a transmission, but my engine stand is, you know, in the way! short of resting a long-block on it's oil pan on the floor, are there any creative solutions for holding an engine out there?

Define creative?

This may give you some ideas if you want to get into a bit of fab work.

Seth,

I was mocking up both a 727 and an 833, so had the same problem you have. I made a simple frame carriage from wood (no scratch) that worked so well a machine shop here got it from me and still uses it for head and cam assembly. I will send a pic if you PM me your email.

I have a few old shopping cart "trucks" that work well but I like to weld and have the ability to roll the assembly around.

ide put the head on and use your cherry picker to hold the engine and use the manifold bolts to hold the engine
