Looks like I may be buying an '83 slant from a van. I assume it will drop in to my Satellite..(ie motor mounts and transmission)? I know I'll have to swap distributer, intake/exhaust manifolds and oil pan. Will I also need to change the oil pick up tube? Any other issues I need to be aware of?

Yep, swap the oil pickup pipe with the pan. Can't think of anything else, though you'll want to check for timing chain stretch on the '83 engine, and if it's significant, you might even want to think about a better camshaft.

Are there any better cams for a hydraulic engine? I kinda like the idea of not having to adjust the valves anymore.

I think you will also want to change the spool style motor mounts if it has them. I know when I built my late model slant that one of the reasons that I converted it to mechanical cam was the rediculous price for hydraulic lifters.

Comp Cams 260H camshaft: clicky-clicky

HYDRAULIC: Great power in mid-range RPM. Good Choice for truck and tow vehicles. Smooth Idle.

I would say that since you have such a big car that you would want the "truck and tow" cam.

$146.58 for the cam only,

PART #CL64-247-4, $230.46- for the cam and lifters.

PART #K64-247-4, $318.56- for the cam, lifters, timing set, spirngs, stem seals, valve retainers,

They also sell a milder version, the 252H, but the prices are the same.

Oregon Cam grinding can also grind you a hydraulic cam for about $70 plus tax and shipping from Vancouver, WA. Juice slant lifters seem to show up on eBay fairly often. $28.10 shipped!

Forget that junk from Comp Cams, the masters of grinding Chevy lobes on defective Mopar blanks, and/or sending you a cam other than what you ordered, and then making excuses and trying to blame their screwup on you. Much better to support a company that supports the slant-6 community; The Erson camshaft group buy info is located here.

there are some of those, but I think I'm the last one to buy one, and the CCX256 custom grind I have in BV is still moving the car without mishap, or mis-oil...and the power on the street is OK...moving to a small 4 barrel ought to make best use of this build.... for better mopar lobes the MM/MP lobes are primarily for the .904 lifter...but they aren't all 'street' profile lobes...Oddly it's interesting that Seymour would recommend chevy lobes for street use. Nothing wrong either way, the Erson/Mr.Gasket Cams are at least Doctor prescribed...
