I usually fill a 55 gal drum with fuel every two years, for the generators and lawn equipment, and add the recommended double dose of Stayble to get to the two year mark. With todays fuels having 10% Ethanol added, does this reduce the fuel storage life enough to worry about?

You should be concerned. Due to E10 in the fuel, it sometimes attacks the metal in the tanks and hardware also go bad quicker.

Also gas is less efficient and less stable, aren't you considering going diesel for your generator if you have to convert engine to slow speed 1800 rpm diesel like changfa that can be handcranked and electric start when current engine for generator appoaches rebuild time?

And keep small amount of gasoline stash for the yard machines and empty it when out of season?

personally i would never keep that much fuel on-hand for that long, e10 or not. as it ages it will degrade resulting in damage to your equipment and poor fuel economy. if you need a stockpile of fuel for an emergency power outage, diesel would be a much better choice as mentioned, both for safety's sake and for stability of the fuel. so in the meantime i would work on getting a diesel gennie, and keep no more than 10 gallons for the lawn equipment, this will ensure frequent turn-over of the fuel which will be even more important with ethanol blends.

At this point I have 3 generators (3500,7550,115000 watt) all gas. I fire them up every 3-4 months for about 20-30min just to move some fuel through them. According to the fuel stabalizer label it says two years should be no problem. Of course that label was printed preEthanol. Some day I plan to get a LP self maintaning whole house generator and sell the 2 larger ones, but untill then it's gas.
I just liked the fact that a 55 Gallon drum would last me just under 2 years and with the price down to $1.61, it seemed like a great time to fill up. Of course if there is a hurricane I'd use the fuel a lot faster.
I terms of storage: I have an old drum that orignally held race fuel and is stored in an outside lean-too type shed away from the house.
