So yesterday I took the wagon (77 Aspen wagon, Super 6, auto) out for a drive after i was unable to install the electric choke (I ordered the incorrect part). It was a nice day, ambient temperature was about 63 degrees. It was mostly stop and go traffic, with a short stint on the freeway.

When I picked up the car a couple of years ago, my dad had installed a triple gauge pod with aftermarket gauges. 1 was a coolant temp. gauge, because the factory gauge was broken (broken circuit board behind the gauge cluster).

Well yesterday, the gauge was registering a bit higher than I had seen it in the past. In the stop and go traffic, i was hovering around 230-235 deg, and on the freeway I was around 205-210 deg. This is about 10-15 deg higher than what I have observed in the past.

I searched the board last night and really couldn't find what would be considered hot for the /6. I was able to find what most folks were running, but it wasn't able to tell me if what I'm at is considered hot.

What is considered hot. Do I have a problem that I need to track down, or am I ok for now?

Thanks for the input.

What you'll read on the gauge totally depends on how accurate & precise it is, and where the sender is installed, in addition to factors under the hood that actually influence the coolant temperature.

What kind of thermostat do you have installed in the car?

I believe that it is a 190 deg thermostat, but I'm not 100% sure since I haven't replaced it since the car has been in my possession.

Should I change it out so that I am positive of what is in there, and then see what I get?

I'll get the brand (I believe SunPro) and location of the sending unit tonight when I am at home.
