If the 2bbl carb was optional, you should be able to make it a 2bbl.

I'd make it look as stock as possible. and not bother trying to certify it.

They usually don't take off the air cleaner, so they might not notice 2bbls if all the hoses and connections are there...........

If you could make it look as stock as possible, you might get away with it and not have to have it certified. They will check everything based off of the smog sticker that is under the hood of the car that tells where all the hoses are supposed to go.

You have to take it to a referee station to have it certified. And this is CA, of course it will cost something. How much I don't know, I never have yet made it that far. I gave up with the first engine swap I was contemplating, and the swap I was contemplating with the Aspen I am not gonna do now... going to keep the /6 in it for awhile (i like being a little different)

Jeez, I sure am glad I don't have to go through that crap.

Have you tried peeling off an inspection sticker from a passed vehicle? If you were pulled over do they really check the numbers??? I can't believe that the cops have nothing else to do than check smog stickers.
Or do you have to prove a passed test to get tabs or insurance?

(go ahead and rip on me for this suggestion. Just remember the stones you throw when you go a mile per over the speed limit tomorrow  )

In california, when you get "smogged" they send an electronic certificate to the DMV, so you can get your tags. You also get a paper copy. We dont get inspection stickers or anything, just tags, and yes, they check the numbers sometimes. When the CHP, for instance, runs your registration, they will know the tags are fake, if you have fake tags

you have to pass a smog test to get your car registered. with out a registration you dont get the license plate tags and its basically fresh meat for any police officer.

Nuff said. I wasn't saying to do it, just wondering how to help get around the situation.

Move to MN? Na, it's 2 degrees right now.

I can assure you they will not check the cam! If it lopes maybe, but the good street cams for a slant won't make them take much notice.

As for the smog, they cram a hose up your tail pipe  and put the car on rollers. My brother lives in Temecula and his old truck (now mine) passed by a huge margin, and most of the smog stuff was golf teed. It was there but just no vacuum went through it. I wouldn't fear the sniffer near as much as the visual. They can get quite picky some times!

Oh yeah, they failed my wife's car because of the gas cap.
