I know it stings, but that's just experience filing itself in your brain. You did some good work, and in that one case went a little far. Not the end of the world!

Luckily, Slant Six parts are pretty common. Take a break, regroup, and find another head. Keep the old one for reference and a little more practice.

Believe me, I've done worse.

Bummer.

I did very little to the port floors of my head. In fact I didn't open up the port cross section much at all and what I did was concentrated in the roof area. Most of the performance gain is in the valve pocket area so that's where I do most of my work.

i wonder if that port could be saved with belzona compound. in fact im almost sure of it. check this site out and look over some of their case histories:

i would send those pictures to a rep and ask if they have any ideas. some of the case histories shown on that site are truly hair-raising and given the outcome, your head should be childs play in comparison. thermal cycling, moderate pressures, expansion/contraction, cast iron, not much different from whats being shown in the articles.

I checked the Belzona 1591 looks like it only can take up to 365 F.
and as it happened it was the exhaust port that went.

Plus I don't like the mental effect that would have -always wondering if it would blow or not lol

But to late anyways, A local auto wrecker just happened to have a few / heads laying on his shelf -a 68 even (same as the one i effed up).

Cheap & dirty just how I like it.

So Ima try this again only without my inner hack taking over.

whatever, i dont see how port walls that thin could be giving you any more peace of mind than one repaired with polymer material, heres hoping this next head doesnt see a similar fate.

Stone, thanks for posting your snafu for all to see. That took guts! You could have easily gone out and purchased a new head and started over and posted additional pics as if nothing had happed! Hats off to you sir! People are learning from your work. Wayne.

Thanks wven. My virtual head was hanging in shame as I typed.

....And Step. I sent an email (with a picture of the port) to a Belzona rep., he recommended their #1111.
He is going to get back to me about the list of questions i had:

Minimum thickness, life expectancy, exhaust temperature stability, etc.

So maybe all is not lost with that head.....I'll play the guinea pig part with that stuff and see what happens.
