hey guys. i was installing my timing chain the other day and my dad said i should have a felt like gasket for the oil slinger. i looked through my gasket kit and didnt find one. i did a search on here and saw that someone mentioned one for a small block. and that it goes between the damper and the timing cover. is this the same for the slant six? my dad seemed to think it went between the slinger and the cover. i have no clue and its not in my factory service manual. thanks for any input.

hello slantscamp,
I have never seen such a thing on a slant. so long as the slinger is there, you should be good to go.
gasket kits do not supply such items - that should tell you something, and if the FSM does not mention them - that should be absolute proof of their non existence.

regards,Rod :D

Walpolla's correct - there is no such a felt item as your father describes.

I don't know that I would ever use one of those felts anyway. The older engines I have worked on that did have them when new, never had them when where they belonged when I tore them down. The gasket sets had the felt, but if they are just going to end up in the oil what is the point?

My 65 Dart with the 273 has one of those felts. At some point they switched to the steel oil slinger, which you should have.
