Long time no post, been really busy and haven't been working on my 63 much. ):

I got burned hard by a bad mechanic. Long story short, he tore my three speed apart, stuffed it in a box and closed up shop, leaving me with transmission in pieces.

So my next plan of action is to swap the three speed out for an automatic. What years will fit? Am I going to have to do any fabrication?

Let me know, thank you.

Will you be doing the swap as if the car originally had an automatic (with pushbutton controls) or do you plan on a lever-type shifter? If lever-type, do you plan on a floor or column shifter?

I just did this AT swap for a fellow SL6 owner...
I supplied all the parts (good used stuff) and installed everything into his car for $600.00 The 904 set-up is so much better then the 3 on the tree.

Everything bolts-in. The closest thing to "fabrication" was bending a set of AT's coolant lines to fit the car. (64 Dart) I was lucky that sometime in the car's past, it received a replacement radiator and that unit had the trans fluid cooler in it. I simply attached the hard lines to his current radiator, instead of having to add and aftermarket fluid cooler. (most manual shift radiators do not have the AT fluid cooler in them)

BTW, I have a good working (assembled) 3-speed available. Send me a PM if interested.

 WOW.

Do you make housecalls? 600 smackers to have the Doc himself do all that work, i hope the owner was grateful. Ive never needed another pair of hands to do anything on my car, but if that's your door rate, id be tempted to fly you up here for some tuning work.

holy cow...

Automatic, lever type, floor shifter. The motor is a 79/80, and I want to use a trans from the late 60's to early 70's. I just want to know if there is any difference in splines or drive shaft issues. Also if the floor shifter is going to interfere with the bench seat.

63Mopar,I just installed a Hurst Pro-Matic 2 cable shifter in my wifes 63 Valiant with bench seat and had no interference whatsoever. With a cable shifter you mount the actual shifter pretty much where you want it within reason.May I suggest a B&M Z-Gate shifter as they are affordable($115-$130),complete with every thing needed for install, easy to install as long as you have a helper, and easy to operate and comes with a switch for backup lamps.
