I was told the MP light weight starter #p5249644 will work on a /6. Does anyone know this to be true?

Yes, the MP lightweight starter will fit a SL6. I've been using one for a few years now.

Here's a pic of mine installed. I asked for a starter for a '95 Ram Van. Got the mini starter and and it works great.

(The grease behind it was covered up by the original starter. I cleaned it up. :) )

Why buy a new one? Just go to a wrecking yard and get one off an '89 up truck V6 or V8. Got mine of a '94 Dakota V6 for 35 bucks. Cleaned it up and painted it and looks brand new.

I went overkill and got a powermaster 9513 starter. I believe it was about $200 from summit, and supposedly is made to turn engines over that have 18:1 compression. Typically that thing has my slant started in less then a second.
