Some time ago on here, there was a discussion of an intake manifold that was being offered on eBay. It was from a 1960s upgrade kit, was a very square-appearing unit compared to the stock intake, and used a series of decreasing-diameter pipes as runners. The inventor claimed benefits, and I even think we dug up an old article on the subject, but I cannot now find it. Anyone remember what I'm talking about?

Would that be the Mays thing?

Looks like the article link is out of date though.

Yep, that's the one! Thanks for remembering the name. I do have photos and one of the two articles here on my machine. The WayBack Machine shows us the now-dead page link here.

I met a guy with a nice '63 Dart in 2003 in Sun Prairie, WI with one of those 2X1 Mays intakes on his car. Nice ride and interesting intake. He used to be on this site, but haven't seen him here in a few years.

Nobody saved pics? I never heard of this intake before.

BTW did Offy ever make a dual port intake for us slanters? I have a 318 style on my van motor. They quit making the 360 sized one. I bought mine new from Summit in '99.

Offy makes a 2x1 manifold and the carb mounting pads are large enough that they can be modified to mount a pair of 2bbl carbs.

Yes I am well aware of that one. The venturi sounding intake runners is what I am interested in. I have never seen this other intake that Dan is talking about here.

Sounds like a good low to mid RPM intake for mileage and torque. :!:

The consensus seems to have been that the Mays intake was certainly a different design, but probably not capable of delivering on the amazing promises made by its inventor. The buyer of such a manifold (when new) was instructed to mill the head substantially, advance the ignition timing, and do other things that probably had more effect on performance and/or economy than the manifold.

Dual-plane intake for the slant-6: Yep, see here.

Dual port 2 runners feeding the same port. Like the new 4 cylinder cars have. One is for the primarys of the carb and the other for the secondays. Offy still sells one for the Jeep inline with a 4 bbl flange.

I've got an old Offy dual-port intake I am going to install on my 84 Ford van. I would love to build a dual-port slant intake. I think it would work best on a stock motor running a Holley 5200 or the Weber equivalent. You would need to have a staged carb to run it, so either the 5200 or a four barrel, but a slant running a four barrel more likely than not would need the full plenum volume, so a dual-port design wouldn't be the best.
