Lower gears will be your best bet. So will making sure your engine is in good tune. Playing around with timing and the distributer curve will help you get some snap.

The correct torque converter matched to your engine/ rear gear will really make thing work well. However its not a CHEAP fix.

A free flowing exhaust system also helps throttle responce.
