Kevin and I, both made it to Sunshine, tonight. Kevin didn't quite make it in the 9's, was low 10's. I brought the Cuda out, to see if it was race ready. The Valiant has had a misfire, that, I haven't been able to cure, and I wanted to make sure I had a good car for Knoxville. The Cuda was runnig mid 8's while blowing the tires off it and also losing the fan belt, every run.

Sounds like a good trip. If you come to Knoxville, I can lend you one of my mini alternator set ups. You go from a 57.5" belt to a 41" belt, so no more belt drops.

Assuming your engine pulls strong to 5000, which is likely the case based on your times, I would guess 0.2-0.4 from the gear swap. On a stock motor, you would likely not pick up anything from that gear swap.
FWIW I picked up 0.8sec swapping from a 2.92 rear to a 3.7. The 2.92 was an open centre diff and the 3.7 is locked, which would have also helped out a bit.

My best 1/8 mile ET is 9.90, that was with the 3.7 gears. That was on a 15.501 1/4 mile.

ok long time no speak to all you fellas. I've been very busy with college trying not to blow my scholarship but i have great news. I finally installed my 8 3/4 rear end with no problems now i'm running 3.73 gears and posi. I'm still breaking it in but it feels alot better it'll blow the tires of from a dig. Now next time i hit the track i'll get the timing dialed in to what it likes with the gears and i'm gonna have to make a few carb changes i've got a bit of bog from a roll anyone got any ideas if i lauch the car on the converter it doesn't bog but if i punch it from a slow roll like maybe 10mph it bogs a bit.

Thanks Kev

My first guess is accelerator pump adjustment.

Glad to see you got the 3.73's in, I hope the higher revs on the highway don't get on your nerves too much.
How is your vac sec spring selection, you may need to put a stronger one in the carb. When I had 3.7 gears I couldn't run anything weaker than the purple spring, now I'm using 2.92 gears and I'm comfortably running the short yellow spring and have run the white spring with only a slight hesitation as the secondaries come in. Just another thing to play with once you've sorted the small bog out. :D
Whatever works out for you I'm sure you'll enjoy a much faster revving Slant. Keep one eye on the tacho though, that first gear change comes up real fast with short gears. I gave my rev limiter a workout a few times with 3.7 gears.

I made changes to my pump cams a while ago but apparently i gotta change something. I have the lightest spring u can put in the secondaries but thats the same spring i had in the carb with the old gears maybe it need a change i'll have to test it at the track in a week or two. I did a bit of a test run the other night i powerbraked it to about 2900rpm then let off brake and floored it. I was impressed i had to start steering to keep it straight all through first gear. I stretched first gear to 6000rpm it seems like i get to 5000rpm a ton easier it pulls strong all through the band. i might have to up my shift point to like 5500 or 6000 we'll see.
Thanks kev

You will need to try back to back runs at the track, using different shift points. I can turn my 170 to 7,000 rpm, but it turns just about the same ET as 6,000. So I stay at the lower rpm. Why beat the engine up, for no gain.

Well done, looks like the new gear ratio has woken things up. What mph were you doing? 9.77 1/8 should be good for a low 15 sec 1/4, maybe even......dare I say.......a 14.

Great job, Kev! You are starting to make some good power now!

We need to get a Slant 6 race going for 2009 down your way. Maybe you could get with Charlie and talk about options, dates, etc??

Lou

Pull your distributor apart and weld the advance slots about 1/2 way shut. Then you can run a lot of initial and limit total. :D
