I have a question I would like to get answered. I see that a lot of people are using the 340 springs in the /6 heads with the bigger valves the question I have is are you running the double spring setup or a single spring setup? the 340's I ran used a double spring set up so just trying to figure out what I need for my /6.
Thanks

The factory 340 spring is really a single spring with an inner "flat wire" damping coil... it looks like a double spring but it's not.

The reason I ask is that I found a set of 340 springs on ebay for 38.00 and asked the same qustion and the seller told me they were a single spring and I know that I had a double setup so what is everyone running springs with or without the coils.
Thanks

Why? The damper is there to reduce spring surge.

Do you need to take metal off the spring seat area in order to use the damper?

The 340 spring drops right in no machining required. I do use larger retainers though. We've been over the retainer issue before. I even posted pictures.

do you happen to know or have a good part number for the retainers and if I understand you correctly I should be looking for springs with the dampners installed

The Comp Cams retainer in a set of 12 is 744-12 or a set of 16 as 744-16. The 340 type springs are 901-16. It's more expensive to buy 12 individual 901 springs than the set of 16. I wish Comp had the 901 spring in a set of 12, but it doesn't appear that they have anything other than individual springs or sets of 16.
