I saw a post where copper head gaskets can be gotten. They come in different thickness. How do I know which thickness I would need. I assume the thinest would be best. After milling a head you wouldn't want to go backward would you?

unless u get the copper head gasket, titan by spe, block should be o ringed. plus if you don't they have a tendancy to leak, thickness is about compression ratio, thicker the gasket the less comp. copper is more or less not for the average guy it has a place in all out racing engines but have seen poor results on street motors. mike

Unless you really have a need to seal a high compression engine, stay with the standard composition type head gaskets.
If you are after more compression, mill the block and the head and then search around for a NOS steel shim type gasket. (.020 thick)

Both the copper and the steel shim type gaskets are really sensitive to surface quality and flatness so extra care needs to be taken to get both surfaces smooth and flat. (reground / milled)

Got the Cox bros. catalog today. They have copper head gaskets in 2 different thickness'.
  • .032" - $75.00
  • .043" - $75.00
They say you must have O-rings in the cylinder block when using these gaskets.

The Cox bros are great people to deal with so you shouldn't hesitate to order from them for any parts.
