Post subject: Oil in the Air Cleaner
PostPosted: Tue Mar 18, 2003 6:09 pm
I have a 68 Dart GT with a factory 225, I've added an electronic ignition but nothing else new. Recently it has decided to give itself an oil change via the Air cleaner. PCV has been replaced, and the oil breather cap, hoses etc. Seemed to get worse rather abruptly. Any Ideas as to what would cause this?

Make sure the PCV hose is clear, also check the base of the carb and the small hole through the gasket / intake manifold, these can get "carboned-up" and limit PCV suction / flow.

What weight oil do you use? You may want to go with thicker oil.
Hate to say that this is what happens (suddenly) when top piston rings break.

A friend of mine had suggested maybe the valve seals, but it seems like too much air coming out for that. Anyone know a good place in the Pacific NW to pick up a rebuildable 225? i'd like to build up a fast one, without having a dead car in the drive for months. I have a 318 block I was planning on using, but after discovering this Message board, I think a Hot 6 would make the car more interesting!

Thanks

Hey Travis I live right up here in Mill Creek. I'm also trying to find a rebuildable Slix to swap into my friend's '70 Swinger. Perhaps we should make it a double effort 8)
