So i was kicking around the idea of gasket matching/ or porting my clifford intake since i have to take the head off anyway to replace a head gasket. The way the car runs now the #1 plug (front of the motor) runs real rich middle plugs are lean and other are normal sandy color. I talked to charrlie he said some people use almost like a dam or blockage to direct the flow differently. Curious if porting the intake would benefit me at all.
Thanks Kev.

Beyond gasket matching, I don't think so. The old Mopar Performance for Six Cylinders book did indeed recommend adding little dams on certain intake/carb combinations.

I gasket matched my first intake manifold and the head. I drove it for about a year, then switched manifolds to a new aluminum manifold. I like the feel with the no gasket matching and the step (mismatch). It feels punchier and snappier, crisper in under 2000 rpm, vacuum is the same with either manifold. The intake ports on the head are fully matched and ported.

Doc puts a dam in one of his manifold, I don't remember if it is the Super Six or not. The gasket matching from manifold to head results in better high end performance. Unfortunatley that sometimes means some give at the bottom end. I would defintley get the practice of gasket matching the ports. The other thing is that the number 6 port on my 75' motor was so poorly cast about 15% of the port was full of metal! I've read the performance of your motor and it is very impressive, I would defintley go ahead and take the die ginder to the head and open it up. Mirror finish on the exhuast, and if it's not perfect it's not a big deal!

The dam in the Offy intake is race only, 650dbl pumper according to the book.

I am going to turn mine sideways and run a divider.

The center is running lean? #1 is running rich? Sounds like valve adjustment? :?:

hmm that sounds interesting about the valve adjustment if i remeber corrrectly i just adjusted them a few months ago but the head is coming off in the next couple days so we'll see i'll have to do it anyway. Thanks for the opinions fellas. Oh finally got the timing in the butter zone after i welded the slots in the dist. really feels like it puts me in the seat now and blows the tires off from a stop or slow roll.

4spd coming soon....

Thanks, kev
