Lately my /6 has been getting oily on the passenger side of the block. A few days ago I double cleaned it really good at the car wash, and checked it each day to see where the oil starts leaking from.

It seeps out from the head gasket. A little for the rear 2/3's of the length of the block, but mostly in the last inch or 2, where the oil goes to the valvetrain.

The head and block were resurfaced when the motor was rebuilt 27,000 miles ago, and I used a 0.039" Fel-Pro head gasket. If I remember correctly, I put a THIN layer of RTV around the valvetrain oil hole.

So once the head is pulled and the gasket seal re-done, what would be a good way to keep it from leaking again like this?

For once, the valve cover gasket is NOT leaking. Now this happens!

The same thing has happened to my rebuilt motor also. I used a detroit brand gasket (mostly red if I recall right) and no rtv or other sealants. I don't think I have ever had any of my slants not leak oil in that corner of the head after some time. I'd really be interested to know if there was some trick to take care of this.

So how can I make sure the next head gasket doesn't leak like this? This is the only one that has ever leaked a lot in the block / head sufaces.

There is this stuff I got from my dad... its really old but still works.. its this avition gasket crap... what it does is setup when it gets hot... and once it get hot it sets up in about 5mins... this stuff works great for this kinda of thing... however a warning, once it sets up its a real PITA to get off....
