Seems that Holley carbs are a fairly common topic of discussion on this board! Well, I've got a question of my own regarding mine on my '65 Barracuda (225 auto on the floor)...

I've been trying to track down the right carb rebuild kit for my 1bbl Holley and I've done everything but stand on my head trying to locate the right carburetor number on this sucker. Below is a list of numbers that I copied online from the Carburetor Shop. From what I understand the number I need is either [R-] 3057, 3058, 3152, 3060, or 3059 (from the list below). Problem is, I see NO numbers like any of these on my carb, and I've looked it over completely!

Year/Engine Carb Type Number Rbld Kit
1965  6 225  Holley 1920       3057  2468760    2026
1965  6 225  Holley 1920       3058  2468761    2026
1965  6 225 RHD Holley 1920 3152  2536215    2026
1965  6 225  Holley 1920       3060  2468763    2026
1965  6 225  Holley 1920       3059  2468762    2029

The numbers that I *can* see on my carb are:

7583 0812 (these are on the top). Then, as I'm facing the engine from the front of the car, on the left side it's got 1 5/16 then below that:
12R-4328-B. There is also a number 3 all alone by itself, and I also see "Model 1920" on it, along with a patent number.

I can't find that carb number (for my specific engine) on the carburetor itself. Where does this number reside??? The numbers above are ALL that I found on my carb (the first pair on the top of the fuel bowl cover, the others on the side of the main valve shaft), yet none of them match the carb numbers on that list...

It seems to visually match the one pictured in my service manual, but then again the caption under that picture (Fig. 2 on pg. 14-6) reads "Carburetor Assembly (R-3059, and R-3060 Typical of R-3057 and R-3058)" which doesn't really tell me which of those it actually is, so unfortunately, my service manual isn't going to help me out here, either!

I guess I will try and contact Holley tomorrow and see if their tech line can help me determine which of those it is from the numbers I've found on it. I've had it under the microscope for two days now and have still not found any number like "R-3057-A" (or even close). Just seems really weird... :?

Any thoughts/suggestions/tips?

Thanks,

None of the numbers on my '70 Dart matched, either. I just went to the store & had them bring out the kit that their listing said I needed, based on a 1970 Dart with 225 & auto tranny. The diagram in the kit looked the same, and had all the parts I needed. I've rebuilt 6 carbs so far, and still haven't used the serial numbers! The differences in various Holley 1920 models shouldn't affect the kits very much; a '65 is going to be pretty basic.

i'll bet it's R-4328, I can't find this number in any of my references, but OEM Holley 1920's from late 69 to late 1970 were in the 4100 to 4300 range...I'm betting your carb got replaced early in life...

hope that gets you more than flustrated...

Thanks again for everyone's help with this. Finally got through to
Holley tech support and the number they actually needed was the "7583"
from the top of the fuel bowl! Okaaaayy... Found out the rebuild kit p/n
is 3-433 and NAPA does indeed carry this (NAPA p/n 2-5461) for just
$17.99. So now I'm weighing buying this and trying it myself vs. taking
it to a carb shop and having them do it for the handsome fee of $150. I
think I'm leaning toward option A. I guess if I screw it up I can take
it to them later to have them fix it... The task is just a tad daunting
to me, considering I've never done a carb rebuild before in my life. Any
tips for this greenhorne?

Get yourself a spray can of good carb. cleaner and find a nice open, well lit work bench.

Have a good block of time available, 2-3 hours for a first time rebuilder.

Before you get started, wash the outside of the carb. off in solvent or even soap and water. Get the outside clean before tearing it apart.

Have some pie pans or other small containers to keep parts in.

Take some notes as you pull things off. A digital camera is also handy.

There is not much inside that Holley 1 bbl, the main thing you will see is the metering block, spray through every hole, every way possible to get the inside passages clean. Blow compressed air through these passages if you have access to it. Be sure all the little "swage plugs" are still in place and tight.

Follow the instruction for assembly and adjustments and you should be fine.
