Hi Guys - a local chap has decided to build slant headers and exhaust systems for a couple of us guys- jigs the works - he is mopar man but manufactures Harley custom systems for a income - and performance car headers for a hobby

Question time - this is a 6 - 2 setup

Primary tube length and diameter we are pushing for torque

collector design

as he aims to do dual systems first

how far downstream of the collector outlet must the X pipe be?

and finally exhaust system diameter downstream of the collector

and what should the layout down stream of the collectors to the Y pipe be and what should the system diameter be in this case?

He builds his systems flanged thus - you can bolt the sections in yourself

He has no experience with slants but has a 69 barracuda he is starting on and is willing to learn

Has done loads of V8's before - cobra guys and so on ,,,and Hogs

Thanks in advance -

From what I've used, and observations of the folks who "know":

1) 1.5" primary pipe diam (OD)
2) 30"-34" primary pipe length
3) No idea on collector design terminology, but smooth is better
4) Secondary pipes 2" or 2.25" diameter, 2" likely better for a non-all-out race motor (street/track)
3) Y-pipe into single 2.5" for single exh, or X-pipe for dual 2". For a serious motor, go 2.25" secondaries into 3" primary single. Place this X or Y junction about 24-30" behind the header collectors. Should have the Y or X junction point about 6" behind the trans X-member on a Mopar A body.

I am a single exh guy for the slant 6. No performance reason for duals, just for looks, so may as well save the weight on the car and expense. I wouldn't be surprised if a big single is better than duals for performance.

Hope this helps,

Lou

The collector design is quite crucial from I have seen..
