I was just curious if anyone has made a long rod slant and used Silvolite H1293 pistons yet?

A local auto dealer had a couple of sets in inventory, should I nab them and work out the hinky details later?

Doc?

thanks for any input,

The #1293 piston is a regular cast alm. alloy replacement piston for the non-turbo 2.2
This piston has no steel expansion control wristpin struts.
It is not a hypereutectic alloy like the H1290 anf H1291

The 1293 has a 1.573 compression height and a valve trench accross the top. The pin is off-set .060 in the direction where the valve trench will not line-up correctly with SL6 valves. This piston has no other dish work so the compression will be in the 11 to 1 range. This unit has long oil return ring grooves which may not survive high compression ratios.

If you can get the 1293 sets cheap and then machine a dish in the piston tops to lower the compression it could work in a mild performance Slant.
IMHO it is a better idea to spend the money on a set of H1290 or H1291.

The place had them sitting on the shelf for like the last 10 years...he wants something to the tune of $80 for both sets (sticks me with 8 pistons and pins...)....and they are .75mm over (so like an .080 overbore???)...

anyhow I'll pass and see wht else pops up, my idea for the long rod would be the 'middle range' 10.8:1 max compression build, I haven't seen a source for the KB pistons in your article....I think I'll wait.

$10.00 each for those pistons is a pretty good price, do they have ring sets to match and go with these?
Don't worry about the extras, this is good, gives you extra pistons to select from and some "set-up parts" for dish machining.

As I said before, it's the extra machine work that will kill you on this deal, you really don't want to be putting lot's of machine work ($$) into cheap cast pistons.
Call around for the H1290 / 1291 to see who has what, Summit, PAW may have a good price.

.020" equals about .5 mm.

Thnks again doc. I would like to make sure I have some 'squash' for better combustion, I may wait and see what also pops up at the local swap meets...it's odd to actually see guys who are into Chargers and Rampages (2.2's). sounds like the eutechtic dish would be the way to go, and machine them like the ones you have on the 'head' article...

Cool.

Thanks Auto Trans,
the 2.2 pistons come out to be a 3.4449" bore according to KB-Silvolites web catalog the slant has the 3.4" bore, so the .5mm overbore would be 3.465, and the .75mm pistons I looked at would come out to be a 3.4744 so almost a .080 overbore plus or minus what the machinist would do to my bores.
Weird to play in metric...
