Heh I hate partially participating while I don't have the damn car back yet ;p... It's a 62, and looking at one of the pics I have I think I remember the situation: the heater box is just over of the rear of the valve cover... allowing no room for a rear fixture? I'm pretty sure we don't have anything back there because of that. We've had the valve cover for a good 4-5 years and the car has always run fantastic, just recall running a rag through the fins now and then, y'know?

You've answered your own question: you're getting oil all over the valve cover because your crankcase is not vented properly. There is room in a '62 Valiant for the setup described (GM breather, Chrysler grommet and PCV valve).

I installed mine a week or so ago. Drove it to work a day or two. The next day, I noticed a larger then usual leak under the car. Popped the hood... the cover wasn't fully seated, the driver side edge was riding high about 1/4" in the air.

Removed all the screws - the cover was rocking back and forth. Gave it a healthy shove and it seated properly. Removed it again, and it appears the head bolts were hitting some of the casting flash on the inside.

Moral of the story - remove any visible casting flash on the inside, and make sure the thing is fully seated. Lucky I caught it early enough - lost about a pint of oil in 2 days of driving, wouldn't of taken long to empty the sump at that rate.

I had to clearnance mine with a grinder in a couple of places.

I always figure any aftermarket part I buy will not fit out of the box, and check on installation. It is annoying that people cannot design/build things properly, but of course we are modifying these cars, so some of this is to be expected.

Back from the garage - In one spot I had to remove a bunch of material, not just the casting flash. Was afraid of putting a hole in it because I was too close to the outer shell but it appears to of made it. Took several fit-grind-test cycles.

Also this is my first time using the Felpro rubber gasket, before I was using the mopar rubber one. Had to trim that too as certain places had extra material towards the inside of the head. Not sure if this is a felpro thing or if the cover puts the gasket in a slightly different spot.

I remember having to grind the clifford intake around the runners to get it to sit right. It's pretty obvious when the intake isn't fully seated. Just wanted to alert people because in this case it may not be obvious the cover isn't sitting right until its too late.

I'm not sure I want to buy offy again if I have a choice. All the grinding, combined with polishing flaws....

I had the same 1/4 inch or so rocking problem w/ my valve cover. I put mine on last week. I didn't lose oil because the stock valve cover bolts were too short in the rear holes to thread in, which had me investigating. I'm guessing they were all cast this way. I believed it to be warped, though I didn't check it.

Once I got it on, I ran it for about 15 miles. The next day I warmed it up and readjusted my valves I didn't have as much of a problem. Maybe heating up and cooling while bolted down reshaped it some? I also have the 2x1 intake which I am also disappointed in, as far as the casting quality goes.

Finally got around to installing my offy valve cover from this group buy. It also doesn't seat properly, having lifted about 1/8" on the drivers side, nearest the firewall. Was about to start the car up to check for leaks, when I glanced at it from the drivers side and could see the the gap and screw threads between cover and head.

Where do you have to grind it? I'm thinking about putting the stock cover back on... :roll:

Managed to install the offy cover, after grinding down some flashing & muscling it on. Also had to remove the head/hoist bolt (holds my electric choke heat sensor), and then reinstalled the bolt after gently tightening up the valve cover.
No leaks so far and the offy looks nice, but it was a lot of trouble for no performance gains. I'd buy an offy intake to match, but need some pretty headers first ;-)
