How much streetable horsepower can you build into a slant six and how many dollars would it take (I reallize more is more).I have a nice little slant six in my 74 scamp with a clifford 4brl . I love the slant six esspecislly the uniqueness however sometimes I get the urge for a vvv8 OOOh just for the go factor!

Car Model:
From what I have experienced building other engines, about 1 HP/cubic inch is a good range that is possible with normal aspiration (carb) and a streetable cam. This will vary with engines, head work, car, etc. but more important is getting everything in "tune" with each other: gearing, stall converter, vehicle weight, traction, etc. Some cars at the track will have less HP but will run quicker because they are just "set up" right. You can always add nitrous, or a turbo, etc. for more. You can also do a more street/strip build up of the motor, and get more than the 1hp/inch base, depending on how much you can handle driving a "nasty" motor in traffic... that's my view...

oh, cost.. depends on if you can port/polish your own head, if you can get deals on machine work, etc... I don't know the cost of doing a 225hp slant... haven't built one of these..
