I recently upgraded the torsion bars in my '70 dart four-door and am thinking about replacing my leaf springs to stiffen up the rear and restore my ride height (5 leafs sagging). I have a set of six leaf springs that will fit, but am having trouble finding front eye bushings to fit the ½" bolt. I know I can drill out the front mount holes to accommodate a ⅝" bolt, but I wonder if I can do this with the front mounts installed. If not, has anyone ever tried making a sleeve to adapt the ⅝" bushing for use with a ½" bolt? I was thinking bronze or maybe aluminum. I'd rather just drill the mounts out, but I don't want to take them out (crusty bolts. Don't want to break anything and be stuck looking for a replacement). Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Nat

My springs came with bushings already that made them 1/2 inch. they knocked out to become 5/8. funny part is I wanted 5/8 holes to go with by dropped leaf hangers so I went out and bought poly bushings. when I went to press out the rubber bushings I found out that they had sleeves in the bolt holes and I didn't have to by the poly bushings afterall. I may have the sleeves somewhere

Are you sure you want six-leaf springs in the back? I've heard that they're considerably stiff for a daily driver. How old are your five-leafs? I'm planning a set of new ESPO five-leafs for the back of my Duster. I imagine that'd be about perfect until I have the D60 installed and can blow the money for a four-link conversion.

The five-leaf springs are original to the car, so 39 years old. I already have the six-leaf springs, so I thought I'd give them a shot. I really need to do something about them as the car (front end set to stock height) always looks like it's accelerating (front end sits higher than the rear).

Let me know if it seems to ride too stiff for you or not. I want mine to have good, tight handling, but not to be too rough for a DD. I still haven't ordered my new springs yet, so I could really go either way.
