Does anyone have any experience with coating pistons. I was talking to a vendor at a car show last weekend who does coatings on internal engine parts and headers and other parts such as brackets, hood hinges etc. He said that ceramic coating the top and inside of the piston plus a teflon coating of the outside gives all kinds of benefits. Actually it sounds like the outside is impregnated with the teflon, silicon material. Would this then be like a hypereutectic piston? Will this coating come off at some point causing internal damage or is this a good thing to do. Or is this just some sort of snake oil?

This is probably the best name in coatings for internal engine parts.
Read through some of their tech articles to get an idea of what is available.
