Down to selecting the cam for this build.
*Vehicle is a 83 D-150, A833, short bed, street vehicle,
*Want improved performance, decent milage, right now gets 18 MPG, axel ratio will probably stay where it is, right now clocking about 2200 RPM at 60 MPH
*Engine components for this build, Aussiespeed 2 bbl intake, Holley 2300 350 cfm, engine builder OS valves, Dutra Duals, HEI ignition, Dutra ported oil pump, new timing set, new distributor... Will oversize bores as needed to get them straight, mill head to raise compression to run reg gas, (after verifying cc's piston recession...)

looking at 3 possible hydraulic cams
1) 214/208 @50 .432 Intake .420 exhaust,,110 LSA
2) 212/206 @50 .443 Intake .431 exhaust,,110 LSA
3) 210/203 @50 .417 Intake .401 exhaust,,110 LSA

for reference the stock cam is 228 advertized duration, .378 lift

**do these look to be a reasonable list of candidates?
**any rationale for selecting one of these over the other two?

If it was mine I would use the Erson 254D .435 lift cam or as close as you can get to it since you have a hydraulic engine. I can attest that it will be a torque monger for that rpm range. :D :D :D
Along with a distributor recurve you will have a hot package with those gears.
My build (Doc's Recipe) came out very well for torque and mileage.

The cam listed as #1 is what John Hartman described as a hydraulic version of the slant six RDP cams that Erson is working. A RV-15 intake with a RV-10 exhaust. Advertised duration of 288 and 280, this is a bit higher than the 260 / 254 one would see with a mechanical cam,from what I have read with a hydraulic set up, the lash ramp take up is removed from the mix.
Cams listed as 2 and 3 are Oregon Cams profiles,, advertised duration at .006 in the 260 / 250 range. Oregon was not at all familiar with the concept of the exhaust having a shorter duration than the intake, but said they would make it any way I ordered it.
From what I can see all three of these cams are close to the 254/254 mechanical cam that aggressive Ted speaks of,,again I don't know if there is enough difference between 1,2,3 that one would actually feel it on a street motor. And that is the question.
