I just put a Pertronix Ignitor II and Flamethrower II in my '64 Dart. It's running nicely already, so I know I've got it installed correctly, but it says I can bypass the ballast resistor for better performance.

The part that is confusing me is that there are two wires (twisted together) at the resistor, but only one of those wires is going to the coil. Where does the other wire go? Does that second (black) wire need to still go through the resistor, with the blue wire (going to the coil) not going through the resistor?

Go to www.mymopar.com look under tools reference for wire/ electrical for your wire diagram and trace the wires to see what they are used for before disconnecting/ discarding them.

yeah, when i did the hei conversion on my dart i broke the resister innards and soldered 8 ga wire from the inside to either terminal of the resistor so it looks stock.

Thanks a lot! That was plenty easy. I just ended up making a little 18 gauge wire jumper and that was it.

I think my resistor must have been bad, because before I was stalling at stop lights after the engine was heated up, but not it idles like everything's healthy.

Good deal! I’m glad it worked out.
