ill post a few pics and hope someone can help

thank you

Your new exhaust manifold is a pre-1971 item and is missing parts. Was it one of these not-completely-accurately-described items? (seller has deleted his original text, which described the manifolds as new and made the incorrect claim that factory-new manifolds came without these parts, which were to be transferred from the old manifold — you can still see the rest of the discussion, tho). To use this manifold successfully, you'll need to find and buy the missing manifold heat control valve parts: counterweight, thermostatic spring, retainer lock, stop insulator. New (old stock) manifold heat control valve repair kits (part number 2525 442 or 3004 664 for the pre-'7) go by from time to time on eBay. Also, your 1971 choke unit will not work correctly on a pre-1970 or post-1972 exhaust manifold; you'd need the type intended for use with the year of manifold you're using. Better and easier: install an Electric choke kit instead.

Take note as you do this job that it is very much worth your while to get the good gaskets for the manifolds-to-head and intake-to-exhaust junctions.

That manifold would be ideal — it's a very high quality original-equipment American-made Chrysler item that will bolt right onto your '71, and contains the full attachment parts package and even a new heat stove for your thermostatic air cleaner. The buy-it-now price is outstanding for a genuine American-made manifold; that's about what the Chinese copycats go for. If you want it, grab it now!

OK thanks Dan

I bought the manifold and I am going to order the 2 gaskets as you recommend

is there any advantage to the electronic choke vs my original one?

thank you
Jeremy

I am also replacing the thermostat and gasket, cap rotor plugs wires fuel filter and air filter while I am taking it apart...anything else you'd recommend thats not super expensive ? what about the gasket for the carb should i order it with the other gaskets as my car had a what seeemed to be throttle body/carb spacer underneath it.....

thanks for your help

Jeremy

You can also get gaskets at Remflex

http://catalog.remflex.com/category_s/87.htm

The picture is outdated, it comes with both gaskets. The one between the manifolds/head and the one that goes in-between the manifolds. Very good quality.

Yes, three advantages: It will fit your new manifold correctly, and it will work better, and it's more adjustable.

Use a Stant SuperStat #45358.

fuel filter
Maybe do the Fuel line mod.

That depends what means "super expensive"!

The correct gasket is a thick insulating item. If you are not removing the carburetor from the intake manifold, there's no need to replace this gasket.

Have you allready removed the manifolds? If not look at the article on the home page about removing the manifolds. Get the PB Blaster or Kroil out and start loosening the nuts up.
Remember the search function if you get stuck.

I snagged one of those exhaust manifolds too, hoping it will be here tomorrow. Hard to believe the low price for what it is! :D
