Took a half day vacation yesterday (Friday) and went with a buddy to the salvage yard with two items on my list. A factory one barrel and a push button box.Walked up to a '64 Fury and BINGO... removed the push button box. Turned around and two cars over was a '76 Dart. Lifted the hood and BINGO again... single barrel Holley model 1920 staring me in the face. Fortunatley for me, some kind fella got there before me, removed the intake and exhaust and left the carb gently resting on the inner fender. This was line strolling thru a candy store. Only problem with a trip like this is it cuts short your time spent in the junk yard.

Um-uhhh...I hate to be a raincloud above your parade, but:

1. The Fury box itself might (or might not) be the same size and shape as the Valiant/Dart box; the buttons themselves are definitely different and won't fit the Valiant dash trim plate.

2. The '76 Dart uses a cable-type throttle control, originally with a Holley 1945 carburetor. Your '64 uses a rod-type throttle control. The rod does not hook up to the cable-type carburetor.

1) The trim plate I found in the trunk matches up with the button box perfectly. I'm sure if something is squirrelly I find it out as soon as I get to installing it.

2) The carb that was laying in the Dart says "Model 1920" on the side of the bowl and looks exactly like the one in my Valiant. Hopefully I've hit a streak of dumb luck and even my ignorance of exactly what I was looking for didn't get in the way. :?

Q; Did they use rod type throttle control on all 1920's ?
I had better go home and do a closer comparison on the two carbs.

I have a Holley 1920 and it has both, wire and rod. Either one can be attached to the linkage. To be specific, the clamp for throttle rod is bolted on the linkage and can be removed, leaving only the option of using wire, which is used in '67.

I have also older 1920s, but they have only rod-linkage.

There are roughly 250 different Holley 1920s, if we only count the ones meant for use on Chrysler slant-6 engines. Some of them will have the correct throttle lever for use in your '64. Some won't.

The button box you found in a '64 Fury has round pushbuttons? '63-'64 Valiant/Dart pushbuttons (and the holes for them in the dash trim) are round. '62-'64 Plymouth B-body (Savoy-Belvedere-Fury) pushbuttons are oblong.

That's correct SSDan. The trim plate I found in my trunk has the round holes. The button box I got out of the '64 Fury(?) was round. Now, I didn't look at any badging on this car, I'm calling it a '64 Fury because while on the phone with the owner of the salvage yard, he said he had a button box in a '64 Fury convertible and this car just happened to be the first convertible I happened upon. Either I could have gotten the wrong convertible or he may have mistaken a Fury for a Dart. Like I said, I didn't look at any badging I was too excited at finding the button box that easily. As I recall this car seemed like it was another half length longer than my '64 Valiant. I thought Dart's were fairly short too.
Concerning the carb., I believe I can remove the two screws in the throttle valve and then slide out the throttle lever and replace it with the proper (rod type) throttle lever off of the crappy repop carb.. Is this not correct?

Aha! Okeh, probably not actually a Fury, then; as I say, the B-bodies didn't get round buttons. The '63-'64 Dart is noticeably longer than the Valiant, and has a 5-inch-longer wheelbase.

Well, kinda, yeah, but…what's the goal here? Worn throttle body + worn throttle shaft from different carburetor = even more wear at this junction, which spoils idle and economy.

The goal is to get rid of the crappy repop carb. and go back to a factory carb. There's a place around here called Bradley Carbuerator that's been in business 30+ years. There pretty good. Gonna have them rehab the one from the junkyard.

Then your plan will work — take them both carburetors and have them rebush the throttle body to fit the '64 throttle lever.
