Hi. I just bought a valiant. It has a seafoam green paint job that is not very good but I like it. Anyway, there is fading due to it sitting out in the sun (I assume). What do people recommend to bring out the color and/or even it out? I am familiar with rubbing compound but am looking for some advice. Thanks very much in advance. Cheers. John.

p.s. my email is jjohnroody@yahoo.com

You will have to rub out your paint with the least abrasive compound that works. Old paint tends to be thin so be gentle, or you will be looking at primer. McGuire's automotive products have several numbered compounds that I have found to work well. Read the label before purchasing.

You need 3M Finesse-It II Finishing Material (not glaze). It’s a very fine polishing compound and available now in a more affordable 16 oz size also. There may be another brand that does the same thing but I’ve never tried anything else.

Rub it in by hand using straight back and forth (not circular) strokes going with the length of the car at all times. If it’s very, very, very bad, you could use it with a buffer and then hand rub the buffer marks out by hand but I would try doing it by hand first. Wash all of the compound out of the cracks as soon as you’re done and it won’t stick like concrete. It’s really very simple to use.
