Say I'm running a 4bbl Offy intake, which I am. Also say I'm running an Edelbrock 650. Which I am. It's fun and all, but say I wanted to tone things down... given the linkage and the intake I have, would the commonplace 2bbl carbs you guys talk about bolt on to this intake (with adapter of course) and hook up to the linkage with minimal, if any, mods? (little tweaks I would count on, but basically, would I need to completely re-think my linkage?)

I could take pics of the linkage and general setup if you'd actually need to see it to make the call. It's not that I can't live with the 4bbl; had this setup a good few years now but I've long suspected it borders on overkill/excess (the motor is built, so I'm not drowning it or anything), and I'd like to see how it runs with a 2bbl. I just don't have the means to get a 2bbl intake and/or make extensive mods to the linkage, not to mention if it's all in the capacity of a crap-shoot just to get it running. That being said, I can live with my current setup no probs, I'd just like to know, again, in theory, if a 2bbl could be subbed in easy enough?

If any of you uber-knowledgeable So Cal tinkerers would like to take a good close look, a meet up could probably be arranged =).

Where were you last Dec?   I was out there dieing for a slant fix.
I would look at a strip kit for your 4 bbl. I have one for the 140X series and like it. Also the 500cfm holley 2bbl that looks like a 4 bbl may work for you.(im not a Holley man so I dont know the model #, there may be linkage issues between the Carter/Eddy and Holleys.
Just some things to think about,
Frank

we had an old bus with a holley 4bbl, it got about 9 miles a gallon (unleaded) a while after we had bought it we noticed that two of the barrels were burned and disconnected...oops.

With an adapter for the offy manifold the linkage swap is easy.

A BBD is probably the easiest most satisfying carb for you to use,,,,but the adpter may be difficult to source.

You could always go to a smaller 4 bbl......

Another thing I forgot to consider... at times I've had difficulty with carb height... with an adaptor and a 2bbl on top, anyone think this would be an issue? The 62 has a notoriously low hoodline...

Other than that, what is the *smallest* 4bbl that would fit the offy intake?

What is really undesirable about you current set up? It would be much easier to stay with the AFB. If you really want a two barrel just disable the secondary linkage. If you are looking for better gas milage that a smaller venturi might provide, I have a near new 500CFM Edelbrock with manual choke and strip kit that I would love to sell you. Send me a PM if interested.

I'm in a situation where this car... is my daily... and it's going to be pretty much indefinitely. I was avoiding saying this so you guys wouldn't A. laugh, or B. scold. =)

But I love it, and I'm willing to accept the current setup, but I thought it would at least be worth it to look at possible alterations. I'll take the expense of the gas, but it would be awesome to not have to fill up quite as often. Is disconnecting the secondaries really a solution? I thought that may be something that would technically work but be undesireable or not really be the best solution.

A 400 AFB would be nice. I have never seen one. If it was me? I would take up Seymour on the 500.

When I go 4bbl I am going with a small AFB from a 340 buick. I has the same size venturies as the Hyperpak. Probably 400 something CFM.

Nothing at all 'wrong' with driving it as my daily, I'm proud having one of the few 62 Valiants in So Cal (probably...), but I know there are a couple fuddies around here that would tsk tsk me for having such a minor beast as a daily. I'll have to dig out the spec sheet... Me and my dad had the motor built up by Performance Engine in late 02, which actually used to be in Long Beach before moving up the coast to Oregon or Washington or somesuch. I gotta see where I am financially in a few weeks to see if I could think about getting this done. I'm getting excited though. I gotta get a quote on an exhaust mod I'm planning, too. I only got the car back from TX in April.

When talking about a strip kit for a carb, exactly what are you talking about? Dave

I'll get in touch with you madmax, when I figure out my financials after my next paycheck. As long as you don't want the price of a *new* carb, I'm sure we can work something out!
