so I have had my 74 duster for about 6 years, yesterday the idot light came on and my oil pressure on my gage is unchanged (normal) the PO put in a aftermarket oil gage and looks to me like he did not use a t(so that you can have dash light and oil gage at same time) all I see coming off the sending unit at the oil pump is the hose for the gage.
My question is do i have to take my dash gages off find the right wire and backtrack from there WTH he did or is there another way of going about finding out why a light I assume was cut/grounded or something came on for no reason.
I know if he cut the wire on oil pumpside it maybe there somewhere but my wires are semi visible and clean i dont see a unknown wire in the engine compartment
or should i just pop out the light bulb and out of sight out of mind will take care of the whole issue

The sending unit should have a wire going to it. Often times the clip will break off and come unhooked, or maybe when some one removed the oil filter they snagged it. I have had that happen several times.

Once the gauge is installed you should be fine, then remove the bulb. But it is nice to have both working. The red light will catch your eye before the gauge does......

It should be a gray wire from the oil pressure switch and it goes through a firewall plug to get inside the car. They could have grounded it around the engine bay side of the plug somewhere. If the plug lost connection, like they sometimes do, the ground path would be broken.

You can find a wiring diagram HERE.
