I was going to make the subject line, "I blame Slantsix Dan," but I really should thank him for my readiness to replace my one-year-old reman master cylinder from vatozone. I was on a trip, so I didn't have much choice of what to buy. After replacing the master cylinder on my disc/drum car, I noticed one of the calipers was leaking. I rebuilt the calipers, then I noticed that one of the braided brake hoses was leaking. I replaced both hoses. Then I noticed the brakes were dragging more than disc brakes should. I had a new Raybestos MC36426 ready for my disc conversion on my /6 car, so I swapped that in. No more dragging. I think the 10 lb residual valve that must have been in the front brake outlet of the 'Zone 'disc' MC was the reason everything started leaking at once. Caveat Vatozone emptor.

Autozone is poison. Just like McDonalds - they suck but they're everywhere.

For a big chain, I like Advance. Not as good as a little independent, but they have a range of qualities available if you want to pay for something good. Also a few perf parts on hand.

I have always had good luck with Napa and Carquest. Living on the central coast of California you cant turn the corner with out seeing a autozone. Btw the way : vatozone. That is hilairious and its the truth. That is the place I go when I need some glue on hood clips or a cherrie vanilia air freshener. See now I am all riled up about autozone. I like my parts man to either now exactly what I am talking about or be able pull out a huge parts book and find it.

Sure, a residual pressure valve could cause dragging. But causing a caliper or hose to leak? I don't think so. If either one leaked from a 10psi residual pressure, methinks they have already failed long before the MC exposed the leak.

That's true, Pierre. Those parts were on their way out, anyway. The extra pressure may have hastened their demise.
