I am brain storming for my upcoming budget EFI build. Megasquirt II seems like a good deal, and can easily adapt to upgrades in the future ( turbo, Ford EDIS). I am thinking about converting my Carter BBD into a throttle body by adding a TPS, removing the venturi and smoothing everything out. The Doug Dutra article about EFI manifold construction seems very doable. For fuel I was going to use a surge tank primed by the stock pump that feeds the electric pump to the fuel rail. I have access to a small machine shop, so I can fabricate/modify some parts. My question is: with EFI, do I really need the heat riser? Don't I want the intake temps as low as possible, especially if I add a turbo? I am trying to think of some way to thermally insulate the intake from the exhaust, something more than just wiring the heat riser valve in warmed up mode.

If you are going to make the bbd work as a tbi unit, you would need at least a bit of heat, as the engine still just see a "carburator", even if you can tune it with a laptop.

Well, that is my opinion anyway... But there are plenty of guys running around with real carbs without heat.

If you are talking about a multipoint injection, with the bbd as a throttle, you won't need heat.

uh, forget that part up top...I am getting tired... hard to read words and stuff
