Ok, I've got a '73 duster with the 225/904 and holley 1920 one-barrel setup. The engine will run fine when you crank it up and let it sit there to idle. Then when you drive the car up the road and give it a little bit of throttle, it will almost stall out and die-and sometimes it does. But as you lift up back off the throttle, it seems to be ok and return back to normal;Like a hesitation is present.

Unless I overlooked something, I couldnt find a vacumn leak. I sprayed around the carb and any other various places that might have a vacumn
leak. I did recently change the carb to intake gasket recently and there was no leak there. However my last gasket was thicker. I do realize also that my carb isnt the best working one ever, but it will get me by for a while (I hope).

Any other ideas??

Sounds like the accelerator pump is not working or there is a hole in the diaphragm. With the engine off take the air cleaner off and look down the barrel with a flash light and move the throttle plates. Note how much fuel squirts out. A dribble or alot....?

What is your timing set at? Should be at least 10 degrees. Sounds like your close to zero degrees.

When was the last time you replaced the vacuum pod? Test it to see if the diaphragm is ruptured and leaking. I am running the VC-208, 3 turns out from all the way in.

Is your distributor line connected to the rear most vacuum fitting on the passenger side? That is the timed port.

What are your vacuum readings at a 750 rpm idle vs in gear at 650 rpm?

Since I have not really messed with the holley' 1920's a whole lot, which part are you referring to as the vacumn pod?

The next thing I will check will be the timing as that has not been done.

My distributor line is in the correct port.

Dont really have a guess on the rpm's as I dont have a tach on it. Dont have a vacumn gauge either

Also on the heat shield, did you use two really thick gaskets on it? Would the two thick gaskets work? Im not sure if it would because the studs
would seem kinda short: once you get the gasket/divider,gasket and the carb on there...

The vacuum pod on your distributor, for vacuum advance.....
Yes, I used two really thick gaskets and sandwiched the plate inbetween them. I installed longer studs.

Need to check your timing....

Ok, thats what I thought. The vacumn pod on the distributor has been
never been replaced. I didnt know anything went wrong with them??

I' will see when a friend can bring over a timing light.

If yours is real old the diaphragm can get old and crack creating a vacuum leak.

There are several different vacuum pods available. All can be tuned with a 3/32 allen wrench to meet your needs.

Since I am after best mileage I use the VC-208 11R pod unscrewed 3 turns out. It gives me good vacuum ranges and power for best mileage.
