Got it running for about 3 minutes but it wouldn't idle after switching to the electronic ignition from leanburn. I figured the timing was off because it was binding the starter as I cranked and I was feeling a lot of vibrations like the engine was working against itself while it was running. Now it won't fire at all. I pulled the valve cover to confirm TDC on number one and have it dialed in at about 4 degrees BTDC. I've ohmed out the coil. I've checked the voltage on the ballast resistor. I get battery on one side and about 7.5 volts going to the coil. I pulled the coil wire to the distributor and I'm getting a good long arc there. I pulled the #3 plug wire and I'm getting nice beefy arc there too. Pulled the plugs and the first three were dry but the last three were wet. I't acts like its not getting any fire. If I dial the timing up to about 8BTDC it starts to bind on the starter again and that is were I'm at right now. I need some fresh perspective. I've run out of ideas.

I'd say, restab the distributor. You might need to adjust the bottom distributor plate a bit to get it to time in. Sounds like your a tooth off.

I would vote for one tooth off as well.

O.k. that makes sense. I'm probable over advanced. So, if thats true and I have room to spin the distributor clockwise enough, say 25 degrees retarded from what I show is TDC I may be in the ballpark then. I admit to total ignorance to what the ring under the distributor is for except to hold the distributor in the engine. The distributor is a 3874876 late one barrel super 6 I'm told.
