i just recently purchased my 67 barracuda /6 about a month ago. i changed the radiator hoses and thermostat well added one more like it, it didnt have one in there, so i was trying to purge the air and notices fizzing in the coolant so i decided to change the head gasket. i took everything apart rocker shaft, pushrods and cleaned everything and today i put it back together i torqued everything and started it up without the valve cover and it would start up but would die if i let go of the gas, i checked the rocker assemblies and noticed some of the pushrods loose, i did rotate the fan while the head was of would that have had anything to do with it?? im new to this site and i would really appreicate the help thanks

Welcome on the board. You obviously have some experience turning wrenches; that's good. You will want to pick up the three books described in this thread as quickly as you can, to get you up to speed on what to look at (and how to look at it) in what order to diagnose and fix whatever problems may arise. Your "won't idle" problem could be as simple as your having left the PCV valve plugged into the valve cover…and left its hose wide open to the air. That'll create a huge vacuum leak and yeah, the engine won't idle. Remove the PCV valve from the valve cover and put it back in the end of the correct hose and see if it'll idle then. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. You'll want to follow the valve adjustment procedure.

Don't forget the water pump if you haven't checked for flow yet.

Welcome aboard 67plymouth,

You did install the spring end of the thermostat in the head, and not facing outwards in the housing? Don't ask why I came up with that one... Lets just say I still have a red palm print on my forehead.

A little 3/32 drill hole positioned at 12 o'clock on the outer thermostat flange helps bleed off air when refilling cooling system.
