my dads friend is rebuilding my 75 225 slant six and he called me and told me to look for some valves for the engine he said they needed to be 10 over. so i found the stock valve measurements 1.62" diameter on the intake and 1.36" diameter exhaust does this mean i have to get 1.72 intake and 1.46 exhaust valves?

71 scamp,

Engnbldr valves on ebay sells a set of over sized SS valves for a slant six engine sized: 1.70â€￾ intake & 1.44â€￾ exhaust with correct stem length & diameter. Many of /6 members have used these valves successfully. You may also plan on new over sized harden exhaust valve seats as the stock hardening will most likely be milled away.

Use the “Searchâ€￾ tool for engnbldr over sized valves. There is a ton of info on them here.

This usually applies to the valve stem size, it sounds like he wants valves with a .010 oversize stem.

FYI: It is common for exhaust valves and valve guides to be worn beyond re-useable condition. new valves with oversize stems can correct both problems.
In my experience, the intake valves and guides do not wear as much and can often be re-used by refacing the seat contact surfaces.
