My trans was lazy on the 1-2 and almost non-existent on the 2-3. This is on a car that was sitting a looong time. I checked the fluid - it was fine. I'm thinking dirty governor, clogged filter, etc. The problem turned out to be that the kick down lever was seized. A little Kroil oil and breaking it free with an awl (using the hole conveniently provided) and now all is well. :D
