I looked it up on the 'transguide.pdf' over here, but could not find anything that was close enough. Here is the number from the panrail:
2392762-5 I think the '3' may be an '8', but I am unsure about the other numbers as i still cannot find anything close.
and on the top of the case: 762-5

my dad is the one who looked at it for me and gave me the info over the phone. This is from my sister's '66 Val, but it has been replaced as the engine has the larger hole in the crank flange.

thanks in advance for your time.

Josh

2892xxx should make that a '68 or '69 model year trans. According to Galen Govier the V8 transmissions for '68 and '69 are 28920xx.

You've got yourself a mystery trans there; 2892 762 does not appear in any of the factory parts catalogues '66 through '71. The '68 and '69 transmissions do start with 2892, but none of them is even close to -762. The '70 transmissions all start with numbers higher than 2892. The '66 and '67 transmissions all start with numbers lower than 2892. There are no transmissions found starting with 2392.

That's what I found in the above mentioned .pdf... I think my pappy may have found some other number from the casting, etc. I just called him and he is going to go triple check it when he goes out to the yard to rehab the cherry picker.

Looks like the actiual numbers are:
2892077
which from the trans chart indicates a '69 A904.

anyway thanks for the replies!
