I have a question about the super six auto kickdown. A couple of articles I have looked at have mentioned that when upgrading to the super six from a 1bbl to grab the auto linkage up to the trans. I have everything for the swap except for the rod going to the trans, but it looks like that might work in my case. Don't think it matters, but the car is a 72 duster. I need to do some more work to get it running, but thought I'd post to see if my old rod will work. Perhaps the lengths are different? If so, can I get it to work (does it need to be longer or shorter)?

Here is a pic of the linkage:

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum.
Looks like you have everything assembled right, the 1 bbl rod may be a bit long but the adjustment may allow you to make it work. (You could also do some rebending if needed)

As long as the kickdown lever is pushed all the way back at full throttle and the rod will allow the carb to return to idle, you are good.

First off, thanks for the reply. :)

I finally got everything running and took it out for a spin. Everything seems to work ok, but I seem to have a couple of issues. The first one is that every once in awhile it seems to lurch when stopping. Its almost like part of the drive train is behind and has finally caught up! I'm thinking it has something to do with the kickdown not being set up properly. Is there supposed to be a spring that brings the kickdown back up (towards the carb), and if so could anybody provide a good pic of how it is supposed attach? When I grabbed my setup in the yard it didn't have one and most of the super six setup pics I either can't tell or don't appear to have one....

Also, my BBD has a bowl vent coming out of the side of it that I'm not real sure what to do with? The only manual I have around here shows a BBD but no bowl vent. Is that supposed to be left open or plugged? It appears that if it was left open it would suck air (and other junk) that wouldn't make it through the air cleaner...

And one last question. Whenever I rev it, it appears to take it awhile for the RPM to get back down. It's almost like a sticky EGR valve.... My car is a 72 so I blocked off the EGR where it connects to the intake and the tube in the back of the carb (checked for leaks). Do the BBDs just do this or did I mess something up with the rebuild?

Once I get around to it hopefully I can get some good pics of the car/setup online. Its not the greatest, but it actually looks pretty sharp (original Rallye Red car).

Have a good weekend, and thanks in advance!

Looks like you might be missing a spring. Here's some pics from a Volare, before I relieved it of the Super Six.

Notice that the bowl vent line just has a cap on it, goes nowhere.

You can increase the adjustable range of your kickdown by sawing the lower rod in two, removing a section of it, and re-connecting the upper and lower half with a threaded union. You will need thread the cut ends with a die and put a pair of lock nuts at each end of the union to keep it in adjustment. The longer the threaded union the greater range of adjustment.
