Has any one else used a Fish carb on a /6. I did for a while and it ran very good for a worn out /6. I wonder how it would work on a good one?

The fish carb has been discussed before on here; do a search for "fish".

I always think they left the Y off the end of the carb's name...

Is that the 100 mpg carb? Can I install 2 on my slant and double my horsepower while getting 50 mpg? j/k

There's only so many BTUs in a gallon of gas. I doubt there's ever been a carburetor that rivals fuel injection, and even FI can't do miracles.

I was getting about 12-15 mpg in town with a 77 dodge 3/4 ton crew cab. No, I didn't get 100 mpg. I wasn't looking for that, just wondered about any one else's results.

Yeah, and use a mix of '60-'68 and '70-'82 external engine parts: Red fish, blue fish!

There's an interesting thread on the HAMB about the fish.

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/show ... f&t=244799

It was an interesting design, and from what I understand, the downfall was media hype that wasn't generated by the company at all.

I found it interesting that the guys in Europe turning faster engines, like 6000 rpm were having them go hyper rich.

Lot's of interesting stuff is out there about the Fish. Hard to say how much is true.

Hummm…
That would be Phish in concert.

Burning Question Department:
Do Phish Heads have better breathing than standard /6 heads?

I don't know about how well fish heads breathe, but you can take one out to see a movie.

The concept behind the fish carburetor is an interesting one. For low speed engines they seem to work pretty well. The hollow throttle shaft, and using the butterfly as an air foil to create a pressure differential, rather than a venturi choke point to create a low pressure to draw fuel is noteworthy.

I'd like to have one to play with, but they are fairly rare, so regardless of actual performance, they tend to command a premium. You never know what you'll find out there though.

For around town, they may very well get better economy than conventional carburetors. Out on the road, it looks like it would be a wash though. large differentials in flow rate appear to have created a problem with mixture control in the Fish.

Aw, heck no, dawg! You can get 'em brand new! Only just $850, with half of that due upfront. Ahem.
