So this weekend I picked up a 74' (supposedly anyway) 225 the block is the good late forged crank casting, but the head is a tube type casting....now my 78 225 is in the car and so I can't pull that head...but
Question is.

How good are the tube sparkplug type heads 74 casting?...it's not a dot' casting as DD talks about in his article, but I'm not familiar with this head type either... (the casting number is different then the dot type at least)

the plan has been to power up this engine (given the forged crank) and plop it in to my 78 Aspen... SO far I've only found one machine shop ( Clifford) that will do the job...everyone local runs scared or is tired of know-it-alls telling them how to do their job. Also, there has to be a cheaper way to go at it then all clifford parts.....I'd really like to push this engine beyond 250hp flywheel....

my other question I'll save for the trans section..haha

any lists of sorces ansourcess would be very helpful...I'd really rather not pay 5k to Clifford for all the parts I'd like.....the only thing of theirs I really like is the Weber Redline TBI...but I'm wondering if I couldn't set up a multiport just as cheap (if you call their $2300 price cheap!)
I'd even be open to any turbo ideas...

that's the problem I quess...time and effort and ablility I have the ablity to do the work but I don't have the network of people and places...I don't. Anyway, thanks!

Your 74 block and head are a preferred Race engine combo. The "bad "head change over was 67<. The 74 head is a little lighter than your 78.

D&G in Auburn does allot of the engines racing at Puget Sound Raceways/SIR. Dale's crew is pretty sharp, but your getting into hunting season now. The Renton NAPA has a great little shop. You may find a good one in Puyallup closer to home.......

There is always Centerline Speed and Machine CO.....they have been around forever...but I do like NAPA and Renton isn't too far.
Lastly why is hunting season important? Do enough guys take off time that it will slow things down?
haha I don't hunt....hunting people was plenty for me.

This is the best slant site in the world.

Turbo Dodge forums other turbo forums.

How much HP you want? A compressor and a $14 die grinder with the "How to Port Small block Chevy Heads" book.

Port the head and take it to the machine shop.

Harbor Freight didn't have long enough carbides for the deep parts. They are a good start.
