Couple of quick questions. I got my engine back from the machine shop last night. The new oil pump doesn't have the standpipe like the old one-can I swap the pipe from the old pump to the new one, or isn't this necessary?

Can the oiling system be primed by filling the sump less one quart, and putting the last one in using a 2 way pump (hand operated) through the nipple on the pump that the sending unit is threaded on?

Can anyone tell me if my bell housing (original) is tapped for the 4 speed overdrive transmission? It appears to be tapped for 3 different bolt patterns, but is currently equipped with the column shifted 3 spd w an 11" clutch. Thanks-

ok man you can transfer the oil tube from your old oil pump

i would makes sure that you had like stp or sumthing in your oil pump then turn it over with the starter with no spark plugs in till it builds oil pressure then get ready to fire her up

When I fired my "rebuilt" slant, I packed the oil pickup with Vaseline, hooked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge, cranked the engine over with the plugs out till oil pressure came up, about 45 sec to 60 sec of cranking. Then I changed oil AND filter and started it up and ran for 20 minutes to break in the cam and changed the oil again. I have about 28000 miles on it now, with no problems. Oh, when I assembled the engine I used PLENTY of the red permatex engine assembly lube.

why did you change the oil after crankin it for 45- 60 seconds? the vasiline would disolve in the oil
