Hi folks,

me and my spare cyl head spent the last night in the garage, thinking about what can be done to make lots of hp. What I really dislike is the 110° or 120° turn of the runners in the head. So I thought about building a custom intake (will be fuel injected with short runners, turbo of course -in the far future. First I will restore my Duster to original condition, this "all out" head is more like a long time project).
I want to "raise" the intake ports. That means remove material at the top side and add some at the bottom, resulting in a port with only a 90° turn. The first problem came up when I put an in/ex gasket on; there´s not enough gasket material at the top side of the intake port to raise the port. The gasket came from a Felpro gasket kit. Are there any other gaskets available that allow some cutting at the top of the intake port ? Or can I make my own gasket from copper or something ? What do you think about the raised port idea anyway ?
Thanx in advance

Chris

The Cox Boys can cut you anything you need. Thjeir current SL6 manifold gaskets have a little extra meat so that could help some.

A long time ago I saw someone bored holes right through the top of the head and into the intake ports, just outside the valve cover. They screwed or welded-in pipes which came-out like stacks, that sure took the angle out of the intake ports!

Thanks for your replies! Cox bros is a little far from me (germany), so is there a material I can cut my own gaskets from ? I´ve asked that question at a local forum but didn´t get an answer.
When I fab custom intake and (turbo)exhaust manifolds, can I cut the intake part off of the stock gasket and use a different material of same thickness for the separate intake gasket ?? Or is there something I overlook (heat shift etc)? Both manifolds will we mild steel, because that is what I can work with.
