Stock stroke 225, bore is .060" Over. Felpro head gasket

The flat top is 0.185" Down the hole.

61cc head volume with ZFR5N installed.

I'm getting 7.8:1 for this combination. Should idle smooth as silk...

I could slap the 48-49ish cc head off the Hooptie on there and bump it up over 8.8

7.86:1 by my math assuming 0.020" compressed head gasket thickness and 3.46" head gasket bore.

That's a tetch low, I'm thinkin'.

My measurement on the fire ring came out at 3.50, but what's 4/100ths while kneeling on cold concrete!

OK, I got the gasket thickness at .030" so I guess that's wrong. .020"- .021" is the Felpro compressed thickness?

A bit better than I got, but not great. I'm seriously thinking about installing the Hooptie head on her car. Once I turbo the Stroker, I won't need the compression or the mongo valves.
Have you still got an NOS correct Holley for the 1963 linkage? Shoot me a PM Dan! I was going to convert to cable and install the Holley Economaster I got from you a billion years ago.

I need to get a "kit" For the headlights we were talking about too. I bought a new headlight switch, but want to wait till I get the load onto relays before changing it out. No sense burning up the new one!

Gads! With that compression thickness number the Hootptie jumps up to 10.58:1

I do have a new carb for the '63. Down to my last couple of rod-operated new carbs. Stand by for PM.

The felpro gasket is thicker than the stock shim gasket, their tech site when I started using them put the "squish" range in the .043-.03 range...so I use .039 as a "safe guess-timate".

If this is true then you are looking at a SCR of 7.6...the DCR is about 5.6-ish (I think I get more dynamic compression from a can of chili con carne).

Hooptie head would bump it up to about an 8.6SCR, DCR of 6.68-ish (you can use ARCO all you want and run a lot of timing advance).

Desktop Dyno says with the Hooptie Head, she might get about 169HP @ 5000, and 207 ft/lbs of TQ @3500 if you were to super six the engine instead and use a BBD... (3500/5000...looks like she might need some 3.21's for fun...LOL)...

Either way it should run smoothly, and make a good daily driver with Oregon's crappy gas quality standards....

Sounds like she'll have a good cruiser to show off at the strip!

Keep going!

I'll have to figure out what it has in it for gears. With the push button auto in the '63 Dart GT, I thought it would have been 3.23's.

Bring your tools when you come down DI. We need to double check the head. I can't imagine a valve grind giving us 61cc's when last time we checked that head a few years ago, we got 53ish cc's.

Stock final-drive ratio in '63 A-body with 225/auto was 2.93.

That should be quite adequate. She's more concerned with economy than ET!

The Felpro squished gasket that I checked was .030,I did have head torqued to 85lbs with arp studs. My 62 SANDSTONE car and the chop top car both had 2.93s origanally.I would use the head that would up the compression a little.Guzzi Mark

LOL... Considering John Terry can take down an entire field of cars with an 18 second consistent ET... I'd love to get my 8 1/4" handed to me by Linda in a 28 mpg, 20 second ET car...

I'm gonna have to go digging for my CC tools, I haven't built an engine in a while, just working on Holly retuning and getting distributors reconditioned... Tomorrow I head up north for a couple of craigslist finds that will determine the future of the Hpak Duster for the next drag season....(They make 26" diameter drag slicks that have a 10-12" tread patch right?).....

more soon,

Im in agreement with DI. I used .038 for all my calcs on compressed gasket thickness.

Yep. I'm of more than 1/2 a mind to put the Hooptie head on there, and slap one of my junkers on the Hooptie. (After a quick trip to the machine shop.) I'll save this one for the RED.

So far the Melling master kit has been outstanding. I degreed the cam yesterday. Right spot on! Nice stuff for a grocery getter rebuild. :D
I'll go stuff a couple more pistons in holes this morning while awaiting Bobby's arrival.

I just went thru this with a 'quickee" stock rebuild for the Ducuda...
funny how I have a bunch of reworked heads and had to dig deep to find one that put the C/R and DCR in a reasonable place.

I use .038 for the Fel-Pro "print-o-seal" head gasket.
Other composit SL6 head gaskets are closer to .045 compressed.

I ended-up using a head at 50 cc's, a steel shim head gasket (.020) and now have the static C/R set at 8.97 to 1
This engine has a unknown "stock" cam set "straight-up" so we will see how it runs.
