Okay I took my engine to the shop to get it dipped, new freeze plugs and studs. While it was there I had them level the head and deck. They ended up having to take off .025 from the deck and .005 off the head. This is the first time the engine has been to a shop since it came off the line in 65.

Now I need to know what the math I have to do to figure out my new head gasket thickness.

I'm not sure I understnad your question. The head gasket thickness has nothing to do with milling the head and block.

My thought process works like this.

If my block and head get milled then the combustion chamber gets smaller. In order to keep the correct combustion chamer size I need a thicker head gasket.

Is this correct thinking or amy I just pissing into the wind here.

Your new head gasket will be thicker and you new CR will be just about the same as the old one. (The factory shim gasket is thinner than the replacement composite gasket)

If anything you raised the CR a tweensy bit.....which I think is a good thing.

You can still use regular gas.

I wouldn't worry about it. That amount won't change much of anything. The FelPro composite head gasket is .038 and the steel stamped gasket that you removed is .020.

Most of us would be happy to remove more to get a little more torque and mileage.
