From browsing the GTO forums lately I have found that many are not thrilled with either the shifting or the durability of a T-56.

One guy called it a cheap copy of a crappy German tractor transmission.

Let's see, 26", 5500, 140 ... I get an overall ratio of about 3.04.
With an overdrive of 0.62, that's ... 4.90?

Please check my math.

I think thats a great Idea! Do have enough straight road available? Is a couple of days enough? Do you have access to good gas?

I bet 2.90 is closer (just guessing....not really checking)

I missed this post the 1st time around. I would love to get one in the t-5 flavor.

The whole concept of a modular bell is that it can mount many trans's anyway.

So whynot Make a scattershield for the slant that can mount the 3 speeds, 833's and the t-5's and t56/tko500/600?

I am in for one!

Greg

Well I had bought a QT bell to put behind a Magnum SB. Problem is that QT ONLY makes Mopar bellhousings for a 130T flywheel. If I want to run the beer barrel intake and the OE Mopar fuel injection setup, I HAVE TO run the 143 T as that is the only one with the "windows" to trigger the crank sensor. Not knowing yet whether I want to go carb or FI I had to head off the UPS guy and tell him "sorry.... changed mind... refused shipment". They have a deal on the SB to T5 bells, 1/2 off "clearance" too. only $250.
I THINK that the T5 and T56 take the same BH.

I wonder if they will need the dimensions for the T-5, arent there 3 different input shaft lengths ? with the V-8 being the longest ?

no; they make several for T5; "taht" part I know they have, no problem.
and as for Ross? Even though I could not make use of his product he seems like one helluva guy. Knows what he's talking about and is willing to take time to explain anything you can think to ask and add a few tips on things you didn't. I called him and he kept me on the line alot longer than I would have expected/. and have exchanged quite a few E mails as well.

If we do ship him a bellhousing, the next question becomes "which" one?

Most people use the standard small bell with the 3 or 4 speed, but I eventually would like to step up to one of the bigger flywheels and Truck bellhousings (clutch is same as 340/360/383 stock clutch)...can he do either?

If he really wants a bellhousing just for the dimensions of the block face I'll scan the dimensional drawing that's in the old Direct Connection Chassis Book.
