:?: Hi

I have been reading up on the super six conversion on my 76 volare and am in the middle of the job as I type.
I have a question that only an expert can answer for me so I thought Id give you all a try.

In the process of removing my old manifolds one of the the studs with the special acorn nut broke and the nut is siezed onto a little nub of stud (the front one near the thermostat housing broke).

So, are there any negative ramifications to using a regular old nut on there or will I be in for trouble if I dont use the special brass acorn nut? If so where the heck can I source one of these nuts? They dont seem to be the kind of thing one can find at the hardware store!

I really appreicate any response you all can find time for.
I am stumped on this one and I take pride in doing things right so I dont want to just slap any old nut on there if it will cause problems down the line.

Thanks in advance

Dr Wheelie

This should tell you all you need to know about the "special" slant manifold hardware's function and necessity:

As for the source for this hardware: your local boneyard.

Yes I have been following it religioiusly so far during the conversion.
I know I need another acorn nut but I cant find one anywhere.

Know where to get one?

Thanks

I took the stud nub with the acorn nut fused to it and cranked the 1/2 of stump into my nench vise. Then I heated it up red hot with a propane torch and used a breaker bar on it. I got the nut off the stump! and now I dont have to sweat using the wrong parts anymore.

Thanks to all

I am sure Ill be back as I try to deal with the rest of the ins and outs of the swap.

My biggest fear is that my car is 76 and the carb and exhust manifold and air cleaner are from a 78. There are all kinds of extra vacume tubes on the 78 so I am not sure how all the emissions crap will work. I plan on plugging much of it anyway

Glad you got it fixed, but I would also like to know where one can get those nuts. When I installed the engine in my car (from a '73 Dart), my friend who was helping me broke the two end studs (of course) getting the manifolds off. He put some stainless bolts with concave washers in their place when we installed the manifold set from the original '72 engine (the intake manifold was rusted from setting on replacement engine). Since the exhaust manifold was already cracked from my old '72 engine (not enough to leak, go figure), I don't know if they have an adverse affect or not. I know this is not proper, but its all I have right now!

Just as an FYI,

The 1978 emissions package wasn't much different than the 1976 model year, just a different line of cars, same crap, same engine....

So if I just plug most of it up with vaccume caps, will anything suffer?
Also having trouble figuring out where the distributor vaccume advance line goes on my holley 2280 carb. Any ideas

I think they call it "ported EGR" in this diagram.

I have that diagram but I never wouldve guessed it was labled ported egr.
My manual shows that some 76s have 2 vaccume lines coming off of the distributor but mine has only one. Also the air cleaner I have has a line go to to the distributor off of some wierd valve on the side of it.
I plan on plugging that sucker
