hi sages- a key to lifesaving, moneysaving and worksaving is the word anticipate. on my next trip to the junkyard and among other goals, i will seek an hei unit from a gm car to substitute for my mopar ecu in my 80 volare sl6. looks like a pretty small unit and from the thread on hei benefits and installation looks pretty easy to wire in. should be plenty of them in the yards. looks like there is no downside to this modification except the risk of poor running if you dont wire it correctly. notice that the ballast resistor on the 80 is the old single type which is what the hei calls for anyway. my older sl6s(73-76) had a dual ballast resistor which i learned to keep a spare of because they usually conked at the worst moment . the afflicted vehicle would usually start and then stall right out. woe to the poor soul who called for road assistance and then got super clipped for unnecessary repairs. think the resistor only cost about $5. i may write an article for the forum called crookeddealer profit enhancers(CDPE) which deals with dirty tricks of dealers to cheat unwary customers out of fat$$$. some come to mind right away- the service engine soon light computer check($90), the o2 sensor, power steering/brake system/auto trans flushes,$ 9.95 oil change specials among others. anybody want to help me with additions ? also anything to look out for when i get my junkyard hei, other than red ants? thanks tons bob f

They are mounted on the intake manifold on the V6 chev be sure you get the one that has the modual mounted on the same bracket as the coil (look for the cooling fins)

Yes the coil and all connecters. You will need to change one end of the coil wire to the end that will fit the GM coil. get from late 80's to early 90's.
