Might be an issue with the time you are calling. I know they are pretty far ahead of us.

Might try an email also, but I wouldn't be surprised if you don't get a response. Seems like it was a black hole, but I might have them confused with castlemaine. Neither are a bad place, just that one (or both) didn't check emails.

Don't forget that the clutch fork is going to be on the wrong side, too. Also, the kits I am aware of are for the W trans, not the R154. At the same time, the reality is that the W58 trans is probably the better trans for the slant as it shifts better and is smaller, but I've heard of them holding plenty of power. My problem was that the W58 input shaft was too short.

Lastly, when I talked to them (two years ago?), I think the kit was like $750 Us, shipped. Not a bad price for the work I've had to do to get an R154 to fit (someday), but you would have to figure out how to make a clutch fork on the passenger side work.

All of this is just from memory, though. I would have to go back and find my info to verify if you wanted some confirmation.

I am keeping an eye on all these 5 speed swap threads, as I still plan on doing just that to my Volare, even if it kills me. (on hold now til I get working again and caught up on Dr bills) Though I (punch line stolen from GM and modified to fit) would like to keep my Mopar all Mopar, as well as keeping my American car all American, the tranny I have now, is out of a 2WD Dakota which yeah, I know, is not an American built trans, nor is it what most consider the "ideal" gearing, especially 1st; but it was OE Mopar. From what I understand, the Supra trans will bolt up to the Dakota 3.9 V6 bell (I know some of the guys here don't like this part, sorry) which will also bolt onto a Magnum series V8. So, I guess I've already got part of the "conversion kit", if I find a Supra trans reasonably enuf; I am also considering a T5 if one of them comes up reasonably, before I get to that point in the build, whenever that happens.. (I don't remember the difference but have been the GM and Ford versions, but I've been told that the Ford version would be a better swap candidate) Otherwise, I will "run what I brung" meaning that AX 15, as its already collecting dust in the shed; unless/until it grenades, then worry about a different trans.

There's a thread on the Moparts board on how to swap in the R154 with a Mopar small block.

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/sho ... ost3168502

Good stuff. Which begs the question, if there is a factory adapter to bolt the small block bell and flywheel to a slant six, why can't you do that with the Dakota bell?

Greg

Its been a while since I've seen info come across on this deal but I belive (if I remember right) the Dakota bell for an AX 15 will directly bolt to that R154. I also have a BH from an earlier (89?) Dak with the old 5 speed (A535 I think they called it) that I might be able to use as a guinea pig if needed.

For one, because they seem to be made of unobtainium. Another is the fact that the adapter and dak bell puts the starter low like a v8 (not my preference, really). Lastly, I wonder if the larger bell and huge (heavy) flywheel would even fit in the small tunnel on the early cars.

The Liberty bellhousing might be a better fit, if Clair figures out how to make it work.

Sorry, but no, assuming you are asking if the W58 is the same as the Supra 5 speed referenced in this thread (been a long time, don't remember exactly what this tread covered). The W58 is smaller, has a shorter input shaft, and a different bolt pattern at the bell housing.

I always felt that the W58 would have been the ideal transmission for a slant as the R154 is overkill, but the input shaft made it a "no-go" deal for me.

A custom bell for a W58 would make this a good match, though.

Call Russ at QuickTime and ask for a custom bellhousing. If enough people call he'll build them. Just need to pick a transmission that makes sense. Need something that has a good chance of fitting and working with the other parts that are available.

Yes, definatley call Quick time. I spoke to them at the PRI show. They said they would consider a slant bellhousing, if there was enough interest, and suggested calling, so they can gauge the amount of interest.

PS: for those interested I saw these transmissions, at the show. Sequential shift 6 speed RWD trans, that looks more compact then the A833 trans. Not for those with shallow wallets.

I know. When I asked about pricing, I was told "about 12". I stated "$1,200, that's a terffic price". Reply, "not 12 hundred, 12 thousand".

For 12K you can buy about 15 T-56's and have enough spares to last you ten years or so.
